On December 16, 2004, Zublin Grenada Limited delivered a brand new cruise port to the Government and people of Grenada --- the result of a public/private partnership between Zublin Grenada Limited and the Government of Grenada.
Already operational are a 300meter pier and welcome center --- both to be joined in September, 2005 by a 40,000 sq. ft. duty free shopping complex.
At the same ceremony, Zublin also announced its follow-up project, the US$400 million St. George’s Revitalization Project (SGRP) --- an ambitious developmental initiative with clear-cut objectives:
- Creating highly developed areas for commercial, residential and tourist attraction sites;
- Improving the environmental and living standards within the town;
- Providing for the sustainable restoration and preservation of its historical character;
- Enhancing the competitive position of St.George’s among its peers in the Caribbean region; and Supporting Grenada’s post-Ivan reconstruction through the stimulation of economic activity.
The Company’s understanding of the Grenadian environment and its proven track-record in delivering the new cruise port have combined to generate multi-lateral support from government, the opposition and the private sector. Although this project was conceived well prior to September 7, 2005, the impact of Hurricane Ivan has heightened the need for this project.
