Adjacent to the new Commercial Port an industrial/commercial area of approximately 2,5 hectares will be constructed through land reclamation. This new land area will include a Free Trade Area that will add a new feature to Grenada’s economy and enhance Grenada’s position as a regional logistics centre.
The open water area to be left open between the new fisheries and the New Industrial/Commercial Development will guarantee access to the new fisheries. An outlet for the St. John River will be provided as illustrated in the drawings. Shore protection for the New Industrial/Commercial Area will be integrated with that of the new commercial port.
The dredging needed for the New Commercial Port and the New Industrial/Commercial Development will be done in the vicinity of the new cruise jetty. As a result of dredging in this area, a future extension of the cruise facility could be undertaken without requiring any additional dredging. This means that a substantial future cost saving will be realized as cruise activity increases in Grenada and additional cruise berths are required.
