Marina Village & Islander Hotel

Marina

A key element of the St. George’s Revitalization Project is the reconfiguration and reconstruction of the famous Spice Island Marina as a full service facility.  The marina facility, with a proposed capacity of 165 yachts of varying lengths, ranging from 40 feet (12 meters) and with a limited number of berths for vessels of up to 120 feet (36 meters) , will include a service area for marine related shops, workshops, travel lift, limited stalling and required parking areas. A small commercial area is proposed on the south side of the marina this commercial area will contain limited retail facilities to serve the needs of the marina and the surrounding residential and hotel uses.

Marina Village

The Marina Village will provide the setting for a unique lifestyle, a wonderful place to live, work and enjoy the great views afforded by one of the most unique sites in the Caribbean. To enhance the viability to create this community, land reclamation is proposed.

As indicated in the drawings, approximately 3.3 ha of land will be reclaimed so as to increase the amount of land area to complement the marina use.  The reclaimed land is a very shallow water area between the north-western point of Ballast Point and the dredged channel access to the Blue Lagoon. In combination with the flat lands presently occupied by the existing underutilized old Spice Island Marina, the total land area available for upland development will be approximately 6ha.  This larger land area will provide the opportunity to create an active marine yachting community that will become a unique district of St. George.

With its exceptional views, unique architecture, open spaces, amenities and pedestrian environment, the area will anchor the southern end of the Blue Lagoon and once again make this area occupy its traditional landmark position in the landscape of St. George.

The present access road will be improved and widened to create an access boulevard to the Marina Village. This new boulevard spine will provide access to the new marina, the proposed residential development.  The residential development will consist of three distinct areas.  Marina Residences - Low rise residential buildings will be constructed facing the marina to capture the exciting views of both the vessels and the Blue Lagoon beyond.  Additionally, these low-rise residential buildings will frame the waterfront promenade and create activity along the waterfront.
