Outline of:

The St. George's Renaissance Project

 

Reclamation of 2 – 2.5 acres adjacent to the existing bus terminus to allow:
    1. Extension of overcrowded bus station
    2. Creation of a new vendor’s market close to fish market, meat market and bus station.

Restoration of the old market square to an area of beauty and historic significance with a unique spice market.

Reclamation of approximately 3.5 acres from base end existing cruise ship jetty towards the outer end of St George’s

Reclamation will allow for:

  • A second cruise ship jetty  
  • New and extended visitors welcome center and tour bus area
  • Tourism entertainment area 
    • New shopping and commercial area 
    • Hotel, casino & convention complex

The basins of both the existing jetty and the proposed second cruise ship jetty will be dredged to appropriate depth

  • To accommodate the world’s largest cruise ships including the Queen Mary II.

Building a ring road, at least one way to allow for:

  • A safe pedestrian Sendall tunnel as an easy and attractive connection between Carenage / Financial Complex and Melville Street area
  • An improvement in the traffic situation in town
  • Much improved and easy access to the hospital
  • Parking and taxi dispatch area
  • Easy access of emergency traffic to crowded area around and on the cruise terminal complex

Major Facelift for the Carenage to include:

  • Widening of the road to allow for modal traffic scheme and facilitate businesses, general public and tourists equally
  • Addressing problems of drainage and flooding
Creating a pedestrian promenade as an attraction for Grenadians and Tourists alike.
