Outline of:
The St. George's Renaissance Project
Reclamation of 2 – 2.5 acres adjacent to the existing bus terminus to allow:
- Extension of overcrowded bus station
- Creation of a new vendor’s market close to fish market, meat market and bus station.
Restoration of the old market square to an area of beauty and historic significance with a unique spice market.
Reclamation of approximately 3.5 acres from base end existing cruise ship jetty towards the outer end of St George’s
Reclamation will allow for:
- A second cruise ship jetty
- New and extended visitors welcome center and tour bus area
- Tourism entertainment area
- New shopping and commercial area
- Hotel, casino & convention complex
The basins of both the existing jetty and the proposed second cruise ship jetty will be dredged to appropriate depth
- To accommodate the world’s largest cruise ships including the Queen Mary II.
Building a ring road, at least one way to allow for:
- A safe pedestrian Sendall tunnel as an easy and attractive connection between Carenage / Financial Complex and Melville Street area
- An improvement in the traffic situation in town
- Much improved and easy access to the hospital
- Parking and taxi dispatch area
- Easy access of emergency traffic to crowded area around and on the cruise terminal complex
Major Facelift for the Carenage to include:
- Widening of the road to allow for modal traffic scheme and facilitate businesses, general public and tourists equally
- Addressing problems of drainage and flooding
